TCoEFS Commences Four-Day Capacity Building Workshop

The TETFund Centre of Excellence in Food Security (TCoEFS), University of Jos, officially commenced a Four-Day Capacity Building Workshop on Monday, 22nd September 2025, at Miango Rest Home, Jos, Plateau State.
The workshop, designed to reposition the Centre for greater impact and sustainability, brought together faculty members, researchers, and administrative staff for an intensive programme of training, strategic planning, and team building.
Opening Ceremony
In his opening address, Professor Dauda Bitrus Bawa, Director of TCoEFS, emphasized the critical importance of the workshop in charting the Centre's future direction. He noted that the Centre stands at a pivotal moment, with significant opportunities for growth alongside considerable challenges in meeting TETFund's performance indicators.
Professor Bawa outlined the workshop's key objectives:
- Strengthening team cohesion and collaborative culture
- Developing actionable strategic plans for each thematic area
- Identifying sustainable income-generating ventures
- Aligning activities with TETFund's Disbursement Linked Indicators (DLIs)
- Building capacity in research commercialization and industry partnerships
Resource Persons
The workshop featured distinguished resource persons with extensive experience in agricultural education and centre management:
- Professor Adeboye O. Fafiolu - Leading expert in agricultural innovation and institutional development
- Dr. Comfort Ochepo - TETFund representative with expertise in M&E and performance management
- Professor Olukayode Akinyemi - Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), FUNAAB
Day One Activities
The first day focused on team building, situational analysis, and establishing a shared vision for the Centre. Participants engaged in interactive sessions that examined TCoEFS's current strengths, identified gaps, and explored opportunities for institutional advancement.
Group exercises encouraged cross-disciplinary collaboration, breaking down silos between thematic areas and fostering a unified approach to the Centre's mandate in teaching, research, and community service.
The workshop continues through Thursday, 25th September, with subsequent days focusing on strategic planning, industry partnerships, DLI implementation, and action plan development.
